My Christmas present to myself this year was a brand new Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III camera. Despite it’s ridiculous name, this camera is really cool. It has SO MANY more features than my venerable E-410 that it will likely be months before I’ve explored them all. My parents came to visit in early December, and we went to see the Newport mansions all decked out for the holidays, and the camera arrived just in time for the trip.
Among its features are several artistic filters, including a Grainy Film I and Grainy Film II. I may be over using them. My favorite picture so far is this one of the backyard of The Elms. At the time of our visit it was freezing, overcast, and beginning to snow. That, combined with the filter, led to a depressingly bleak picture. I love it- it looks like something out of book of Newport’s lost history.
Go figure that the ability to mimic ancient photo technology is the thing I like the most of my state-of-the-art camera.
